Six projects in the total value of 75,000 Euros were implemented by local self-governments of Aleksinac, Babušnica, Bela Palanka, Mionica, Sjenica i Trgovište, from May 2019 until November 2020. The objective of the call was to increase the employability of vulnerable and less employable groups of the population through the improvement of their skills and knowledge and contributing to the reduction of the mismatch between demand and supply on the labour market.
“I am very happy to see that Norway has contributed to training of 99 beneficiaries and the subsequent employment of 37 persons, especially in this year, where the Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected the labor market. Despite these aggravating circumstances, and with the great help from our partner UNOPS Serbia, we managed to secure a number of jobs in six Serbian municipalities. By improving a wide range of skills - from a foreign language, IT, interpersonal and communication skills, to gaining first professional experience - all our beneficiaries, mainly those with lower levels of education, youth, older than 50 years of age, social welfare recipients, Roma and long-term unemployed, significantly improved their position on the Serbian labor market,” the Ambassador of Norway to Serbia, H. E. Jørn Eugene Gjelstad said.
For the implementation of these projects, the Kingdom of Norway earmarked 60,000 Euros, while the local self-governments contributed some 15,000 Euros.
“Through this public call, we aimed to support the employment of persons from the disadvantaged groups. This is why I am very glad that women made 65 percent of all participants of the professional practices,” the a.i. “Norway for You - Serbia” Milica Došenović said.
