Better Energy Efficiency of the Kindergarten in Babušnica with Norwegian Support

The energy efficiency of the kindergarten "Dečja radost" in Babušnica was improved with the support of the Kingdom of Norway, and this preschool today received a vehicle for transporting children from remote parts of the municipality.

The energy efficiency of the kindergarten "Dečja radost" (Children’s Joy) in Babušnica was improved with the support of the Kingdom of Norway, and this preschool today received a vehicle for transporting children from remote parts of the municipality, within the project "Norway for you - Serbia".

"This support of the Kingdom of Norway is very important, especially because this is the only kindergarten in the municipality, which provides daycare for children from Babušnica and surrounding villages. Through the project “Norway for you - Serbia”, we have successfully conducted vocational training in accordance with the local employment plan," said the Mayor of Babušnica, Ivana Stojičić.

The building of the preschool institution in Babušnica was built more than three decades ago, and the reconstruction included the installation of thermal insulation of the outside walls, construction of the facade, replacement of joinery, installation of thermal insulation of the attic mezzanine structure and replacement of gutters. This building is used daily by more than 120 children, three to six years of age, as well as 19 teachers and employees. The new "Ford Transit" van will be used to transport children from the surrounding settlements to kindergartens, which will facilitate their access to the only such institution in the municipality.

"I am glad to see that with the support of Norway, now almost 140 boys, girls and teachers have better living and working conditions. Through the project "Norway for you - Serbia" we provide support to less developed municipalities in Serbia, because in Norway we also face migration from remote parts of the country, and we try to stimulate people to stay in their cities," said the First Secretary of the Royal Norwegian Embassy Stefan Sandstad Almehagen.

All savings on energy bills will be used to improve the work of kindergarten, in accordance with the formal Decision on the use of savings, which will soon be adopted by the Municipal Assembly of Babušnica, as part of the application of good governance with the support of Swiss PRO.

"With the support of the Kingdom of Norway, the project improves local infrastructure in partnership with municipalities from the third and fourth categories of development, so as to contribute to balanced socio-economic development in Serbia," said the a.i. Project Manager "Norway for you - Serbia" Milica Došenović.

The Kingdom of Norway has invested 100,000 Euros, and the municipality of Babusnica 23,000 Euros in the project of increasing the energy efficiency of the kindergarten building and the procurement of the vehicle.
